In this week’s episode of The Djuna Shellam Podcast, I talk about the weather—of course—as well as how irked I am about two television series I’m currently watching attempting to use the ongoing ‘Rona situation as entertainment material. I also talk about how I experience self-doubt in my writing, and how I deal with it.
Self-Doubt
Self-doubt will always show up when I least expect it; then, it will want to hang around for as long as possible, sabotaging my work—if I let it. It can come in for varying reasons, but its intent is to destroy self-confidence. My self-confidence. I used to let it win because it is strong, cunning, and persistent.
Over the years, I’ve learned to step away from my work until a later time. I don’t quit, I just step away. I might step away for an hour, a day, or a month. Doing that keeps me from getting pulled down into the darkness of doubt. It allows me to separate self-doubt from my work.
Tragedy As Entertainment
For some strange reason, I don’t consider the ‘Rona as entertainment. Maybe in ten or twenty years—maybe—but not now. 2020 is still a vivid memory with lingering and ongoing issues. You’d think producers would get that, but… they don’t. I said in the podcast I didn’t want to watch the shows, but I did. I wanted to see what point they were trying to make. Ugh. So unhappy I did. People… it’s called FICTION for a reason. I have so much more to say about it, but I’m just going to move on now.
Amazon Sales
I’ve been puzzled as to why Amazon is slashing the prices on a couple of my books, but as long as it doesn’t come out of my meager royalties, I’m excited for people who might want to take advantage of it. The last I checked, Dot in the Weeds and Nom de Plume paperbacks are on sale. I do not know how long they’ll continue to be discounted. I’m hoping through the holidays. Have any readers on your prezzie list? Hmmm…?
